Ghd celebrates 16 years of supporting Breast Cancer Charities & launches Take Control Now Campaign

Ghd – the global leading professional hair tool brand - is proud to be celebrating their 16th year of supporting breast cancer charities and raising over $19million for the cause to date.

For the 16th anniversary ghd will launch the new TAKE CONTROL NOW campaign, which reminds women to self-check for signs of breast cancer, every single month, via a powerful message embossed on the limited-edition styling tools. ghd CEO, Jeroen Temmerman, says:

“The ghd and breast cancer charity partnerships are very much a part of our brand DNA. For the past 15 years we have devoted a moment in the year where we, as a brand, want to give back and focus on what we stand for; to empower women and instil them with confidence.

Today, more than ever after the global pandemic, these partnerships are critical to ensure the charities we collaborate with around the world get the support needed to continue their great work and to keep helping the thousands of women diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

We are proud of these long-standing collaborations and the $19 million that have been raised so far. We remain committed to delivering year after year as part of our mission.”

Delyth Morgan, Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Now, the research and care charity, said:

“Around 55,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK – that’s one woman every 10 minutes. We know that the sooner breast cancer is diagnosed the more effective treatment can be, which is why we are so pleased to be working with ghd on this important campaign, reminding women to check their breasts.

The coronavirus outbreak represents an unprecedented situation for all of us, but we know this is an extremely uncertain time for those affected by breast cancer. We’re determined to make sure anyone affected by the disease gets the support they need, the whole way through this crisis and beyond, but we can’t do it alone. Breast Cancer Now’s nurses, scientists, and the hundreds of thousands of families affected by breast cancer, urgently need your support. Now more than ever.

On behalf of Breast Cancer Now, I would like to thank ghd and its customers for their continued support over the last 15 years, helping us to provide support for today and hope for the future for everyone affected by breast cancer.”

With up to 83% of women using a hair styler at least once a month* and 90% of 18-35 year old women only checking their breasts a few times a year**, versus the recommended once a month, ghd are using  their tools as a powerful medium of communication; TAKE CONTROL NOW is embossed on the iconic stylers  and hairdryers to remind women of all ages every single month, especially under 35 year olds, to ‘give some mirror time to your boobs’ and check their breasts

The campaign features 11 incredible women from different countries who were diagnosed with breast cancer before turning 35 years old. They have shared their stories with ghd to help educate and remind others of the importance of self-checking.

“As a trusted brand that is used by millions of women across the world and with our new campaign “give some mirror time to your boobs”, we have a unique and powerful opportunity to connect and communicate with our consumer via our tools. Our mission for this new collection is to empower and remind women to take control of their health, while also raising valuable money for charity.”
